STORIES FOR JUSTICE WORKSHOPS

How would the stories of your organization look different if they were told by the people and communities you serve?

Partner with us to design a training for your team, constituents or community leaders. They will learn basic video production skills, storytelling principles and how to make change through stories.

OUR TRAININGS COVER

Our workshops and trainings are custom designed for each client. But they always center justice, collaboration and deep listening, trauma-informed practices and the power of storytelling for social change.

  • Intro to storytelling principles for impact, or the healing power of stories

  • Basic smartphone audio/video production skills (including lighting, composition and audio tools)

  • How to conduct interviews and/or be interviewed (or, feeling comfortable on or behind the camera)

  • Building an impactful story (storyboarding and editing)

BENEFITS TO PARTNERS

  • Reach and engage constituents or community virtually

  • Provide valuable digital storytelling tools to your team or constituents

  • Center and amplify the voices of directly impacted people in telling the story of your work

  • Gather content that tells the stories in real time of the people you serve and the impact of your work in the community

  • Amplify your impact by sharing story-based video content on your website and social media platforms

Is your organization struggling to stay connected and engaged with the communities where you work—and even harder to create meaningful content about your impact if you can’t be on the ground with your constituents in the same ways as before.

At Unchained Stories, we believe that stories are the most powerful tools we have for building connection and empathy. And building connection and empathy is critical to scaling the impact of your work for justice, especially as we all shift to largely virtual advocacy spaces.

We can help amplify your justice work right now. Our team has a strong foundation in digital storytelling for impact and advocacy, and unique expertise in collaborating with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people. Our approach centers justice and is rooted in trauma-informed and anti-racist principles.

At the culmination of the training, each participant can produce a short video around a theme and gain important skills in digital media creation. Your organization can share these videos on your channels to drive fundraising and raise awareness—or work with our team to produce an impactful organizational video or series, using new and existing video footage and other tools.

Curriculum:

Justice Filmmaking Intensive

6 module skills-based training, customized for your group or organization

Our in-depth filmmaking and multimedia storytelling curriculum centers the voices of people who are directly impacted by incarceration and the criminal legal system. It is collaborative, trauma-informed, and designed to put tools for film production and multimedia storytelling into the hands of those whose voices are most needed to dismantle and reimagine the system.

The curriculum can be tailored to organizations and groups who want to learn to produce documentary films, audio stories and podcasts, and more. We begin with a 6-module storytelling tools framework and customize it for your organization.
